Red Belarusian cow — መግዛት ወይም መሸጥ
Breed history: The Red Belarusian cow is a unique achievement of Belarusian animal husbandry and the result of a long and careful selection process. These cows are valued for both their milk qualities and their ability to produce quality meat. The history of the Red Belarusian breed originates from indigenous cattle that have been raised in the territory of modern Belarus for a long time. Gradually, this cattle was improved by adding genetic material from other breeds. In the early last century, breeds such as Angeln, Red German, and later Red Polish and Danish were used. In the mid-20th century, experiments continued with the Red Estonian and Brown Latvian breeds of cows. At a certain point, it was found that breeding "within itself," without adding new genetic lines, yields good results. This allowed efforts to focus on creating a stable and productive line. The main breeding work was carried out at the Vasilishkovskaya Experimental Livestock Station, where conditions were created to maintain and improve the breed. Following this, a breeding book was published, which systematized data on Red Belarusian cattle. Despite historical successes, today the breed is at risk of extinction. Its population has decreased, and it is significantly preserved only in a few farms in Belarus. Sometimes it is referred to as a "breeding group," reflecting its small numbers. However, Belarusian specialists do not lose hope of preserving this breed. They continue to work on its maintenance and development, seeing it as an important part of Belarusian national agricultural heritage. Exterior: Red Belarusian cows have external features that distinguish them well from other breeds. Their heads are of moderate length and have a wide shape with an elongated front part. The occipital crest is clearly defined, and the horns are of medium size, harmoniously complementing the overall appearance of the animal. The neck of the cows is thin, not too long, and the withers appear smooth, sometimes slightly split. The chest of the animals is quite wide and of medium depth, which gives their build stability and strength. The backs of the cows are straight, slightly narrowed, with a long, straight sacrum that protrudes slightly. The middle part of the body is well developed, the belly is voluminous but not sagging. The hindquarters of these cows are of medium width and length, while the legs are relatively thin, dry, and short, with correct positioning.

Diet: To maintain the health and productivity of red Belarusian cows, it is important to provide a balanced diet. The basis of their nutrition consists of hay, silage, and various feed mixtures. Concentrates such as grains and meal are also added to the feed, enriching the diet with nutrients. Mineral supplements and vitamins are essential components, especially during periods when the animal experiences increased stress. During pregnancy, the diet should be particularly nutritious to ensure the normal development of the future calf. Newborn calves are fed their mother's milk, which provides them with all the necessary elements for growth. As they grow, they are gradually transitioned to starter plant feeds to ensure a smooth shift to independent feeding.
