Znamensky type of Polessian meat cow — መግዛት ወይም መሸጥ

History of the breed: The Znamenian intra-breed type of the Polessian meat cow was developed in Ukraine as a result of long-term and targeted work to improve the quality of meat breeds. This work began in the 1980s and involved specialists from the Institute of Animal Breeding and Genetics, as well as from the Kirovohrad Institute of Agro-Industrial Production. The goal of these efforts was to create cows that combined excellent meat characteristics with high body weight. To achieve the desired qualities, scientists used several breeds, including the Red Steppe, Simmental, Charolais, and Aberdeen-Angus breeds. By crossing these breeds, specialists aimed to improve the meat productivity of the animals, as well as increase their weight and the quality of their offspring. The new type was officially recognized in 2008, and its approval became final in 2009. Exterior: Znamenian-Polessian cows have a strong and compact build. The color of these animals is light gray, sometimes with slight variations in shades that make them unique. They have a wide and deep chest. The back of the cows is straight, complementing their overall harmonious body structure. Their hindquarters are well developed. The limbs of these cows are strong and stable, which helps them move easily across various types of terrain and withstand physical loads. A cow weighs 500-580 kg, while a bull is larger and weighs 800-1100 kg. Conditions of keeping: The Znamenian type of Polessian meat cow is well adapted to the steppe conditions typical of Ukraine. These cows feel comfortable in such conditions and are capable of maintaining a high level of productivity. A pasture-stall system is suitable for them, as it is for many other cows. Znamenian-Polessian cows have a calm temperament. They adapt well to different keeping conditions and do not require special efforts to acclimatize to new environments. This makes them convenient for breeding in various climatic and agricultural conditions. Productivity direction: From the name of the mother breed, it is clear that the Znamenian-Polessian is a meat cow.
