Breed history: Buelingo is a breed of beef cattle that attracts attention with its unusual appearance and high production characteristics. This breed is relatively young but has already gained popularity among farmers. In the 1970s in North Dakota, USA, cattle breeder Russell Bueling conceived the idea of creating the perfect beef breed. Together with Professor Russ Danielson from North Dakota State University, they began selective breeding experiments. The foundation of the new breed was the Shorthorn breed. 14 cows from Bueling's herd were crossed with Shorthorn bulls to produce offspring with good meat qualities. In the next stage of selection, to fix the characteristic white stripe on the back, called the "belt," the offspring were crossed with the Galloway belted breed. The resulting hybrid had the desired exterior but did not grow fast enough. To improve muscle mass and growth rate, the Chianina breed was introduced. After many years of careful selection, the Buelingo breed was officially recognized in 1988. In 1999, the American Buelingo Association was established to develop and promote the breed. Interestingly, the pedigree of Buelingo also includes genes from other well-known breeds—Angus, Limousin, and Highlands. This makes the breed even more unique and interesting from a genetic standpoint. Exterior: Buelingo is a breed that immediately stands out due to its unusual coloration. The cow has black or cherry-red fur with a wide white stripe around its body. This contrasting "belt" is a distinctive feature of the breed, making it easily recognizable. Interestingly, bulls without a belt cannot be registered as purebred representatives of the breed. Buelingo can be either horned or polled. Although both options are acceptable, preference is given to polled individuals, as this makes their maintenance easier and reduces the risk of injury. Buelingo is a medium-sized breed. The weight of bulls ranges from 630 to 820 kg, while cows weigh between 450 and 550 kg. At the withers, Buelingo bulls reach a height of 149 cm, and cows reach 134 cm. The build of Buelingo is strong and muscular, which is characteristic of beef breeds. The back is straight and strong, and the loin is wide. The legs are of medium length and sturdy, allowing Buelingo to move easily across pastures. Bulls have well-developed necks and withers, giving them a powerful and impressive appearance.
