History of the breed. The Azerbaijan Zebu breed is a meat and dairy breed. According to archaeological findings in modern-day Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Zebu animals were bred 2500 years BC. French archaeologist Jacques de Morgan discovered and described a round seal made of black-gray agate. This seal depicted a heavily furred animal with a hump that resembled a zebu. For many centuries, the population of Azerbaijan Zebu remained unchanged and was not crossbred with other breeds of cattle. The Azerbaijan Zebu produces quality meat and fatty milk. Exterior. The Azerbaijan Zebu can be of various colors, including orange, black, red, yellow, gray, and white. The Azerbaijan Zebu has a hump and a pronounced brisket, with loose skin. The height at the withers can reach 107 cm, the body length is 119 cm, the chest circumference is 150 cm, the chest width is 28 cm, and the chest depth is 54 cm. The weight of the Azerbaijan Zebu is 220-240 kg, while bulls can reach a weight of 350-440 kg. Conditions of keeping. The Azerbaijan Zebu does not require special care, tolerates both cold and heat well, and can go for long periods without water. These animals are characterized by endurance and hardiness. They adapt perfectly to any conditions. Due to their genetic traits, they have increased resistance to various infectious and parasitic diseases. Direction. Dairy direction. The average milk yield during lactation can reach 470 kg. Under optimal conditions, its productivity can reach 1200 kilograms of milk with a fat content of 5%. Some individuals exceed 2000 kg. Zebu milk is a valuable product for the production of butter and cheese.
